Do's:

  • Brush for two minutes twice a day with a small amount of fluoride toothpaste.
  • Use dental floss on a daily basis. Brushing alone doesn’t do a complete job. Flossing helps loosen plaque and most important of all, keeps your gums healthy
  • Make it a habit to have a check-up every six months. Regular care helps keep small problems from becoming big ones, and is much more convenient than getting emergency treatment
  • Start your child’s tooth care early. Bring them to see the dentist starting at age one.

Don'ts:

  • Snack or sip on tea, coffee with milk and sugar, soft drinks and juices frequently.   There are bacteria in our mouth which ferment certain kinds of sugars, carbohydrates, starches and produce acid that causes cavities.
  • Put foreign objects in your mouth. Regular chewing causes enough wear and tear on your teeth.
  • Whenever something is “not right” in your mouth, don’t be shy about coming in. We can’t possibly know something is wrong unless you tell us, and immediate attention often prevents a more complicated treatment later. So do your part and see dentist right away.
  • Ignore lost or broken teeth. One lost tooth will quickly affect other healthy teeth.
  • Smoke. Smoking is the leading cause of gum disease. If you are a smoker, try to cut down, or better yet, quit.
  • Don't put your baby to bed at nap or bedtime with bottles that contain juice or milk. Water is okay. No honey or sugar on pacifiers.
  • No long lasting or frequent use of candies or gums with sugar. This includes TicTacs, hard candies, cough drops, etc.
